Knights prepare for conference meet by competing at Tostrud Classic

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College men's track & field team posted 14 personal bests and five top-5 results at the Tostrud Classic, the Knights' final tune-up before next week's conference championships.
 
The evening began with a new PR for Caroline Kelleher in the 60-meter hurdles. She crossed the line in 10.06,
 
Nicole Peterson and Louise Ruzanic finished second and third, respectively, in the 29-runner field for the mile. Peterson clocked a time of 5:20.32, while Ruzanic posted a personal-best of 5:20.74.
 
Bianca Lott and Sydney Mielcarski posted personal-best time in the 400-meter dash, crossing the line at 1:02.59 and 1:05.36 as they finished in ninth and 12th places, respectively.
 
Terri Mensah set a new PR of 8.10 during the preliminary round then matched that in the finals as she placed eighth overall. That time moved her into fifth place on Carleton's all-time top-10 list.
 
Charlotte Kusch ran a season-best 2:21.66 as the runner-up in the 800-meter race. Ellen Stumbo and Genevieve Agati both set new PRs as they finished at 2:32.15 and 2:34.91, respectively, to place 12th and 13th overall.
 
Nina Peterson matched her sister's earlier placement in the mile with a runner-up result in the 1000-meter race with a personal best 3:04.61. Shemsy Lewis-Mussa and Anna Blaich also set new PRs of 3:14.57 and 3:15.37, respectively.
 
The Knights established four new PRs in the field events. Ava Brosam cleared 3.00 meters in the pole vault, Mensah measured 10.45 meters in taking fourth in the long jump, while pentathletes Willa Bishop and Jillian Muglia posted distances of 8.60 meters and 7.44 meters in the shot put.
 
Up Next for the Knights
Carleton hosts the MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Feb. 26-28. Competition begins with the pentathlon at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26. Friday's action begins with field events at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, with racing on the track starting 30 minutes later. Saturday sees an 11:45 a.m. start for field events and a 1:00 p.m. opening on the track.
