NORTHFIELD, Minn. – A quartet of athletes on the Carleton College men's swimming & diving team earned Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Communicators (CSC), recognizing performance in the pool and the classroom. Senior
Sean Smith was tabbed for the award for the third consecutive season, while junior
Hans Anderson and sophomores
Jackson Rankin and
Aiden Johnson collected the honor for the first time in their careers.
Schools could nominate up to four student-athletes that had at least a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average, were at least a sophomore academically and athletically, and competed in five competitions OR finished in the top-eight at a conference championship meet.
Smith, a political science major, finished seventh in both the 400-yard individual medley and 200-yard butterfly at the MIAC Championships this season. He has earned two All-MIAC awards as well as All-MIAC Honorable Mention twice in his career.
Anderson, a chemistry major, was this year's MIAC Diver of the Year, sweeping the 1-meter and 3-meter titles at the MIAC Championships. The junior moved on to the NCAA Regionals, where he finished fifth on the 3-meter board and sixth on the 1-meter, securing his spot at the 2025 NCAA Championship. At nationals, Anderson was 12th in both the 1- and 3-meter diving competitions, earning him a pair of Second-Team All-American awards.
Johnson was the eighth-place finisher in the 200-yard butterfly at this year's conference championships, and earned All-MIAC Honorable Mention last year in that event.
Rankin posted a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly and a third-place result in the 200-yard butterfly, as well as being a part of the fourth-place 400-yard medley relay team at the MIAC Championships. The sophomore has seven total All-MIAC awards and two All-MIAC Honorable Mentions on his career ledger.
Anderson advanced to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced later this month.
