Knights take fifth at Rochester Invite

ROCHESTER, Minn. – The Carleton College men's swimming & diving team finished fifth of eight teams at the Rochester Invite. Hans Anderson led the way with a pair of runner-up results in diving as the Knights combined on 26 total top-16 finishes
 
The three-day meet with a morning prelims-evening finals structure and included meet host No. 12-ranked St. Cloud State (NCAA Division II).
 
Thursday's Recap
Anderson finished a close second in the 1-meter diving competition. He scored 440.30 points, trailing a D-II diver by 0.65 points. Anderson scored 449.55 points during the preliminary round. Charlie Ruppe took 13th place.
 
Carleton top entry in the 200-yard medley relay—Nicholas Chang, Alex Lee, Warren Kozek, and Neil Tollefson—finished 10th out of 34 entries with a time of 1:35.66.
 
Carson Rotter (12th at 4:51.69) and Matthew Krogman (13th at 4:54.16) both set season bests in the 500-yard freestyle.
 
Chang placed 14th in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:01.43.
 
Jackson Rankin won the consolation final of the 100-yard butterfly, covering the distance in a season-best 51.33. Kozak placed 13th in the same event with a season-best time of 52:01.
 
The first day concluded with Carleton taking 11th place in the 800-yard freestyle relay. Chang, Kozak, Luke Schmitzer, and Thor Pearson combined on a time of 8:03.31. The Knights' entry of Rotter, Leif Petricka, John Rosseel, and Tollefson posted a time of 7:28.79 to take 16th place.
 
Friday's Recap
Day two saw Rotter finish 11th in the 400-yard IM after touching the wall at 4:18.09.
 
Petricka took 16th out of 63 racers in the 200-yard freestyle after finishing in a season-best 1:50.59.
 
Lee clocked a season-best time of 1:00.32 as he placed 15th in the 100-yard breaststroke.
 
Chang was 11th in the 100-yard backstroke after finishing in a season-best 52.47.
 
In diving, Anderson was again the runner up, this time on the 3-meter board as he scored 458.45 points. Ruppe placed 12th.
 
Friday concluded with an 11th-place showing in the 400-yard medley relay. Chang, Lee, Rankin, and Tollefson combined on a time of 3:31.31.
 
Saturday's Recap
Chang swam a season-best 1:55:4 to win the consolation final of the 200-yard backstroke. He finished 10th overall (54.28) in the 100-yard IM, with Pearson placing 15th (56.25) in the same event.
 
Aiden Johnson (11th at season-best 1:59.43), Kozak (13th at season-best 2:00.51) and Rankin (14th at 2:00.52) all raced in the consolation finals of the 200-yard butterfly.
 
Krogman earned ninth place in the 1650-yard freestyle as he reached the wall in 16:53.20, while Rotter took 13th place at 17:16.16.
 
The meet concluded with the 400-yard freestyle relay. The Knights' top entry of Pearson, Rosseel, Chang, and Tollefson combined on a season-best time of 3:14.29, good for 17th place.

Carleton head to Florida next week for its annual Winter Break training trip.
