Knights move into third place on Day 3 of MIAC Championships

MINNEAPOLIS — Behind eight performances earning either All-MIAC or all-conference honorable mention, the Carleton College men's swimming & diving team climbed on spot in the team standings at the MIAC Championships and now sits in third place after Day 3 of the conference meet.
 
Gustavus continues to lead the six-team competition and now has 722 points. Saint John's is second at 534 points, with Carleton (374 points) passing St. Olaf (305) for third place. Macalester (136) and Hamline (45) round out the scoring.
 
Sean Smith (Fy./Mashpee, Mass./Mashpee), Sam Glaubitz (So./Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca), and Jamie Willmore (Sr./Salt Lake City, Utah/Rowland Hall St. Marks) finished sixth, seventh, and eighth, respectively in the 400-yard IM. Smith clocked a time of 4:14.57 during the prelims and nearly matched that with a 4:14.68 during the championship final as he earned All-MIAC honorable mention. Glaubitz's best swim came in the finals, with a time of 4:15.14, Wilmore finished at 4:18.60.
 
Adam Nik (Sr./Mankato, Minn./Eden Prairie) picked up all-conference honorable mention after touching the wall in the 100-yard butterfly at 51.46, good for fourth place. Charlie Krajc (Fy./West Hartford, Conn./Conard), Morgann Rene (So./Singapore, Singapore/United World College Of Southeast Asia), and Collin Eldridge (Fy./Cameron Park, Calif./Union Mine) swam in the consolation final, placing 12th, 13th, and 16th. All three turned in their fastest swims of the day during the qualifying round at 53.76, 54.31, and 54.68.
 
Josh Wu (So./Germantown, Wis./Germantown) and Ian Scott (So./Seattle, Wash./Garfield) both took home All-MIAC honorable mention after finishing fourth and sixth, respectively, in the 200-yard freestyle. Wu recorded a time of 1:43.17 during the finals, while Scott finished at 1:43.72. Aidan Jalili (Fy./Burlington, Vt./Lawrenceville) and James Marlin (Jr./Houston, Texas/Mickey Leland College Prep) raced in the event's consolation final, taking 10th and 13th places. Jalili clocked 1:46.93 during the finals, while Marlin finished in 1:51.67.
 
Kevin Chen (Jr./Normal, Ill./Normal Community) received All-MIAC honorable mention with his fifth-place swim in the 100-yard breaststroke. He and Teagan Johnson (Jr./Byron Center, Mich./Byron Center) were seeded seventh and eighth after the prelims, but both moved up in the standings during the finals. Chen posted a time of 58.69, while Johnson finished at 59.47, good for seventh place.
 
Ethan Tun (Fy./Potomac, Md./Landon) earned his second individual All-MIAC award after capturing third place in the 100-yard backstroke. He was third fastest during the prelims at 52.54 and managed to slice more than a half-second off and reach the wall at 51.99 during the finals. Carl Zhang (Jr./Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) picked up all-conference honorable mention thanks to his sixth-place result at 53.78.
 
Ian Scott (So./Seattle, Wash./Garfield) won the consolation heat of the 100 back, placing ninth at 54.42. He was joined in that race by Adam Nik (Sr./Mankato, Minn./Eden Prairie), Parker Johnson (Jr./St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park), and Charlie Krajc (Fy./West Hartford, Conn./Conard) as that trio finished 13th, 14th, and 15th with times of 55.73, 55.97, and 56.21.
 
The session was capped with another All-MIAC relay for the Knights. The quartet of Wu, Rene, Glaubitz, and Scott—all of them sophomores—combined on a time of 1:26.35.
 
Up Next for the Knights
The MIAC Championships will conclude on Saturday. The prelims start at 10:30 a.m. with the championship and consolation finals beginning at 6:30 p.m. Contested events will include the 1650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, women's 1-meter diving, and 400 freestyle relay.
