Biography

MAJOR…
Biology

POST-CARLETON GOAL(S)…
Public Health

I CHOSE TO COME TO CARLETON BECAUSE…
It was a college where no one else from my high school graduating class was going, I wanted to see what the Midwest was like and knew that I would be challenged the most at Carleton.

WHAT I MOST LIKE ABOUT CARLETON IS…
The prime-time entertainment of watching squirrels and crows duke it out on the bald spot for the best tree as wildly misthrown frisbees almost knock them out. All great fun.

OFF-CAMPUS STUDY PROGRAM(S) PARTICIPATED IN AT CARLETON:
Food Forests and Resilience, SEA Semester

MY OFF-CAMPUS STUDY PROGRAM ENHANCED MY EXPERIENCE AS A CARLETON STUDENT-ATHLETE BECAUSE…
In Mexico, I ran at high elevation so my lungs were in stellar shape coming back to Carleton for the Swim Season. On SEA Semester, they attached a rope around my waist and allowed me to swim/towed behind the back of the boat. Definitely the reason why my backstroke got so good. Also pulling on ropes and pulling up anchors gave me a leg up in the weight room. Academically, I learned to speak Spanish and Whale (think Dory from Finding Nemo), of which I am semi-fluent in both.

INTERNSHIP/EXTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES DURING MY TIME AS A CARLETON STUDENT:
Concussion Alliance, I designed a webpage on neurodegenerative diseases resulting from concussions. I worked as a science writer. Grew to love graphical abstracts, became a professional skimmer, and learned about the many ways sport can mess up your brain. Don't do drugs and don't run into walls. You can get a heart transplant but you can't get a brain transplant.

MY INTERNSHIP/EXTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES ENHANCED MY EXPERIENCE AS A CARLETON STUDENT-ATHLETE BECAUSE…
I learned how to concisely communicate complex information in an easily accessible and aesthetically pleasing manner. Now I also can prepare for class in 5 minutes if need be. It's my mediocre superpower.

HOBBIES:
Making ambient noise, tickling the ivories, wandering, being bored (it is criminally underrated).

PERSON(S) WHO HAD THE MOST INFLUENCE ON MY ATHLETIC CAREER:
My parents because they drove me to late night and early morning practice and paid the team fees. Also Jesus.

HISTORICAL FIGURE(S) I’D MOST LIKE TO MEET:
Zheng Yi Sao

MY FAVORITE…
ATHLETE(S): Joey Chestnut
BOOK(S): A Gentleman in Moscow, The Iliad, Winnie the Pooh
FOOD(S): I operate on a see food, eat food diet.
TV SHOW(S): My brother reenacting scenes from the office, Andor
MOVIE(S): Shawshank Redemption
