Knights tie for seventh at MIAC Indoor Championships

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College men's' track & field finished in a tie for seventh place at the MIAC Indoor Championships. Senior Gabe Nichols had the Knights' top finish of the day as he placed second in the 3000-meter run.

Bethel University won its fourth consecutive team title with 167 points, followed by St. Olaf (145), Saint John's (108), and Gustavus (74) with Concordia-Moorhead (69) rounding out the top five. St. Scholastica (54) edged Carleton and Macalester (53) for sixth place, followed by Hamline (32), Augsburg (12), and Saint Mary's (11).

The final day of action at the conference meet began with the field events. Lucas Lenz finished 15th in the triple jump with a distance of 12.11 meters. James Gates took home All-MIAC Honorable Mention after finishing sixth in the pole vault as he cleared 4.38 meters, which was more than foot more than his previous season best. Soren Kaster was 12th in the pole vault at 4.13 meters, and Reed White finished 16th at 3.98 meters.

James Alexander (new PR of 1:24.43) and Daniel Scheider (1:25.28) raced in the 600-meter competition, finishing 12th and 17th, respectively.

Jacob Hopkins added to Carleton's team score with his eighth-place result in the 1000-meter run. He covered the distance in a personal-best 2:33.00. Emerson Lange won his heat and finished 11th overall with a personal-best time of 2:34.15. Indy Lyness placed 18th at 2:35.99, while Ronen Silberman took 20th at personal-best 2:36.89.

Asher Nathan competed in the 200-meter dash, clocking a time of 23.31 to placed 19th.

In addition to Nichols' second-place finish (season-best 8:18.58) in the 3000-meter race, Dashiel Coyier was ninth across the line at 8:45.82.

Roy Llewellyn (8:56.89), Martin Moshfeghi (PR of 8:57.37), Travis Brown (8:57.43), and Simon Chambers-Trubatch (PR of 8:58.58) crossed the line in 16th through 19th places, respectively.
Andrew Jamison (personal-best 9:00.39) and Torte Torstenson (9:01.50) also raced in the event, taking 23rd and 26th places.

Carleton entered the final event of the meet, the 4x400-meter relay, trailing both St. Scholastica and Macalester by two points in the standings. The Knights quartet of Alexander, Isaac Robertson, White, and Scheider finished sixth overall — earning All-MIAC Honorable Mention — and ahead of both teams they were chasing in the standings. However, St. Scholastica was next to finish and edged Carleton by a single tally in the team scores.

The lead-off leg by Alexander was his fourth event.  Robertson split 50.98.  White was a late substitute after competing in the heptathlon and pole vault and ran 51.34 to keep Carleton in contention, before handing off to Scheider, who ran the second-fastest anchor leg of the race, splitting 49.71 despite having sat out the previous three weeks with a leg injury.
