NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Carleton College junior
Soren Kaster sits in fourth place after the first day of competition in the decathlon at the Manitou Last Chance Multis, a final opportunity to improve his chances of securing a bid to next week's NCAA Championships.
Kaster accumulated 3,230 points over the first five events. He started the day with a time of 11.50 in the 100-meter dash. He then soared 6.07 meters in the long jump, measured a season-best 10.64 meters in the shot put, and cleared a personal-best 1.76 meters in the high jump. He posted another PR in the 400-meter dash, crossing the line at 51.25.
His first-day point total is only seven behind what he registered over the first five events at the MIAC Decathlon two weeks ago.
Thursday's portion of the decathlon includes the 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, and 1500-meter run. The first event on Thursday begins at 11:00 a.m.
