NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College men's cross country and track & field programs had the maximum six student-athletes selected to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team for 2025-26.
Gabe Nichols '26 secured his third straight Academic All-District award, while
Soren Kaster '27 took home recognition for the second consecutive season.
Reese Anderson '26,
Dash Schwab '27,
Travis Brown '28, and
James Gates '28 each made their debuts on the Academic All-District team.
To be nominated for the Academic All-District Team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50; must be at least a sophomore in academic and athletic standing; and must have turned in a top-50 individual performance in the region (for cross country, this would be at the regional meet, for track & field, this would be based off of TFRRS performance list rankings for the region.)
Nichols, a political science & international relations major, was a top-50 performer in the region for cross country (20th at regionals), indoor track & field (eighth in the 3,000-meter run, 10th in the mile run), and outdoor track & field (20th in 1,500-meter run and 39th in the 5,000-meter run). He earned seven All-Conference honors during the year, including three each for indoor and outdoor track & field. He was an individual qualifier for the NCAA Cross Country Championships, posting his best-ever finish (86th place). Nichols advanced to Nationals five times during his career, going three times for cross country as well as the indoor mile in 2023 (finished 16th) and outdoor 1,500-meter run (finished 17th). He earned eight All-Region awards during his career, was a six-time MIAC champion, and collected a total of 24-All-Conference awards.
Kaster, a biology major, excelled as a multi-event participant as he was regionally-ranked for the indoor heptathlon (12th) and pole vault (37th) in addition to the outdoor decathlon (10th), javelin (35th), 400 hurdles (36th), pole vault (39th), and 110 hurdles (50th). Kaster posted top-25 national rankings in the heptathlon and decathlon. He was the MIAC heptathlon champion with a school-record total of 4,783 points. Kaster was also All-Conference in the decathlon (third) and outdoor pole vault (sixth), giving him nine career All-MIAC honors.
Anderson, a cognitive science major, was regionally ranked in three events. He secured his first career All-Region award by ranking fourth in the North Region after measuring a career-best 55.18 meters in the javelin during the decathlon portion of the MIAC Championships. Anderson also ranked 21st in the decathlon and 42nd in the outdoor pole vault. He totaled seven career All-MIAC awards.
Brown, a physics major, was regionally ranked in both the outdoor 10,000-meter run (37th) and indoor 5,000-meter run (48th). He secured his first All-Conference honor by placing sixth in the 10K at the MIAC Outdoor Championships.
Gates, a biology major, was regionally ranked throughout the year for the pole vault. He was 38th during the indoor season and 32nd during the outdoor slate, earning All-Conference recognition both times to give him four career All-MIAC honors.
Schwab, an economics and political science & international relations double major, picked up All-Conference recognition in the javelin and ranked 21st in the region.
Nichols was selected to advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced on July 14.
