NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College men's' track & field team is in fifth place after Day 2 of the MIAC Indoor Championships.
Soren Kaster came from behind to win the heptathlon and did so in school-record breaking fashion. One year after establishing the new program standard by scoring 4,745 points, he totaled 4783 points.
Reed White placed 15th in the two-day competition with 3,896 points.
Kaster entered day two of the heptathlon in fifth place, climbed into third after posting a time of 8.21 in the 55-mter hurdles, then soared a field-best 4.40 meters in the pole vault to move into the second slot. He trailed Bailey Evans of Saint John's by 113 points entering the final event, the 1,000-meter run, but finished second to White with a time of 2:43.63 to win by 71 points.
White clocked a time of 8.98 in the 55 hurdles, cleared 3.70 meters in the pole vault, and had the fastest time (2:42.13) in the 1,000-meter run.
The meet got into full swing on Friday afternoon.
Jackson Reade and
Lucas Heldman competed in the high jump, the former placing ninth after clearing 1.76 meters and the former was 14th with a height of 1.71 meters.
Gabe Nichols earned All-MIAC recognition as the runner up in the mile run. He finished at a season-best 4:12.40. Six other Knights raced in the event, including
Emerson Lange (PR of 4:20.29),
Indy Lyness (4:21.33), and
Dashiell Coyier (PR of 4:22.45), who placed sixth through eighth, respectively.
Gus Schafer finished 11th with a new PR of 4:25.11, just ahead of teammate
Simon Chambers-Trubatch in 12th place (PR of 4:26.81).
Kyle Thompson placed 26th at 4:40.79.
Daniel Scheider placed ninth in the 400-meter dash with a new indoor PR time of 50.79, and
Ronen Silberman followed by finishing 12th in the 800-meter run (2:01.38).
Roy Lewellyn paced the Carleton entries in the 5000-meter run, crossing the line at 15:21.71.
Travis Brown was 11th at 15:27.87 while
Torte Torstenson finished 17th at 16:06.51.
Carleton 4x200-meter relay (season best 1:32.26) finished fifth to earn All-Conference honorable mention, while the Knights' Distance Medley Relay was the runner up with a time of 10:19.92, earning the quartet All-MIAC status.
