NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College women's track & field team won three events at the Meet of the Hearts, in which 13 schools competed. First-year Amelia Campbell won the 800-meter run, classmate Claire Vukovics prevailed at the 3000-meter distance, and the Knights capped the day with a triumph in the 4x400-meter relay.
 
Carleton established 25 personal bests and had three student-athletes improve their placement on the Knights' all-time top-10 leaderboard.
 
"It is exciting to see race structure and technique come together," said Carleton head coach Donna Ricks. "I was very proud of their accomplishments.
 
"A shout out to our seniors as we celebrated them on this Valentine's Day. They have been an inspiration to this team throughout their four years, and we are so grateful for their leadership."
 
The Carleton rookies had a big meet. Campbell finished second in the mile run, clocking a personal-best time of 5:12.12, while classmate Nina Peterson finished third with a PR time of 5:17.59. Campbell returned to the track later to win the 800-meter race in 2:19.36 to establish another PR, while sophomore Elle Stumbo (PR of 2:34.22) placed third overall in the event.
 
Carleton had four of the top five finishers in the 3000-meter race, and rookies held three of those spots. In addition to Vukovics' victory in 10:05.91, Lauren Tittel was third at 10:16.68, and Nicole Peterson place fifth at 10:30.40 to set a PR. Senior Aliya Larsen finished In between that duo, clocking a time of 10:26.26.
 
First-year Terri Mensah posted three top-3 results, establishing personal bests in each event. She was the runner up in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.54 to move into eighth on the Knights' top-10 list. She added a second-place finish in the long jump (5.08 meters) and took third in the triple jump after measuring 10.39 meters to move into sixth in program history.
 
"The triple jump is new to her this season, and it will be fun to watch her develop over the next four years," said Ricks.
 
First-year Sophie Syverson moved into the No. 5 spot on Carleton's all-time leaderboard after clearing a personal-best 3.10 meters in the pole vault, good for fourth place on this day.
 
Sophomore Caroline Kelleher continued her preparation for the upcoming MIAC Pentathlon as she took second place in the 400-meter dash with a PR of 1:02.18 and added personal bests in the 55-meter hurdles (fifth at 9.22) and long jump (4.70 meters).
 
The Knights had four other individual top-five results. Sophomore Charlotte Kusch placed second in the 600-meter race, with a new PR of 1:41.01. Classmate Madeleine Reckmeyer (3:10.73) took third in the 1000-meter run with first-year Sierra Cherniavsky (PR of 3:15.66) finishing fifth. Rookie Jillian Muglia finished fourth in the long jump with a personal-best distance of 4.95 meters.
 
The day wrapped up with a convincing victory in the 4x400-meter relay. Senior Biana Lott, Kusch, Campbell, and sophomore Willa Bishop pulled away for a nearly nine-second triumph as they combined on a time of 4:13.72.

Carleton heads across town for the Tostrud Classic on Friday, Feb. 20 at St. Olaf College. Field events begin at 5:00 p.m. with racing on the track commencing at 6:00 p.m. That meet will be the final tune up for the MIAC Indoor Championships to be held at Carleton from Feb. 26-28.
