Charlotte Kusch wins 600m, Knights turn in 16 top-10 finishes at St. Olaf Invitational

NORTHFIELD, Minn. — The Carleton College women's track & field squad turned in a strong all-around performance at the 13-team St. Olaf Invitational, highlighted by a victory from Charlotte Kusch in the 600 meters and a pair of podium finishes in the 3,000 meters. The Knights accumulated 16 total top-10 results on Saturday.
 
Kusch crossed the line in the 600-meter run at 1:42.95, good for a margin of victory of more than 2.0 seconds. Genevieve Agati finished fourth in the event with a personal-best 1:48.05, and Sydney Mielcarski placed fifth while establishing a new PR of 1:48.53
 
In the 3,000-meter run, sisters Nina Peterson and Nicole Peterson delivered to-back podium results in their first 3K. Nina Peterson was second in 10:32.62, while Nicole Peterson followed closely in third at 10:35.51. Sierra Cherniavsky added another top-10 showing for Carleton, finishing sixth in 11:10.75.
 
Terri Mensah recorded a tie of 8.25 in the 60-meter dash, good for 10th out of 33 racers. She also tied for 10th in the long jump at 5.06 meters.
 
Carleton also cracked the top five in the mile, as Louise Ruzanic finished fifth in a personal-best 5:22.96. Madeleine Reckmeyer finished seventh (2:28.27) in the 800-meter run, and Bianca Lott took seventh in the 200-meter dash at 28.29.
 
In the relays, the Knights' 4x400-meter team of Kusch, Reckmeyer, Mielcarski and Ellen Stumbo finished fifth in 4:24.41.
 
Sophie Syverson posted the eighth-fastest time in the preliminary round of the 60-meter hurdles (10.73). She qualified for the finals but elected not to race. Instead, she focused on the pole vault where she established a new personal best of 3.00 meters, tying teammate Ava Brosam for seventh place at the meet.
 
Caroline Kelleher had Carleton's other top-10 finished in the field events, placing sixth after clearing 1.45 meters in the high jump.
 
Up Next for the Knights
Carleton is set to send a contingent to compete at the Gopher Classic hosted by the Univeristy of Minnesota. Competition at the U of M Fieldhouse is slated to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7.
