NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College women's track & field team sent competitors to two meets on Friday evening.
Lauren Tittel and
Amelia Campbell raced the 3000-meter distance at the Mark Schuck Open. Tittel crossed the line at 9:58.45 as she finished second by only 0.23 second to runner from host Minnesota State Mankato, a NCAA Division II program. Tittel's time ranks No. 10 all-time at Carleton (see chart below). Campbell took fifth out the 41 entrants with her time of 10:13.73.
"Lauren and Amelia took advantage of the fast heat and ran tremendous 3Ks," said Carleton head coach
Donna Ricks. "They responded well to the competition."
Aliya Larsen and
Claire Vuckovics competed in the 5000-meter run at the St. Olaf Invitational & Multi. With a time of 17:54.10, Larsen placed fourth of 38 racers, while Vuckovics was eighth at 18:21.94.
Caroline Kelleher,
Jillian Muglia, and
Willa Bishop took part in the pentathlon, finishing eight, 18th, and 21st, respectively.
Kelleher totaled 2,758 points as she posted PRs in all five events. She clocked 10.40 in the started 60-meter hurdles, cleared 1.53 meters in the high jump, measured 7.24 meters in the shot put, registered 4.62 meters in long jump, and finished the 800-meter run in 2:33.04.
Muglia also registered PRs in all five events, amassing 2,348 points. She finished the 60-meter hurdles in 11.33, soared 1.38 meters in high jump, recorded 7.20 meters in shot put,
Measured 4.88 meters in the long jump, and clocked 2:46.77 in 800-meter run.
Bishop collected 2,191 points, including personal bests in four events: 60-meter hurdles (12.23), shot put (8.60 meters), long jump (4.35 meters), and 800-meter run (2:36.71). She was only 0.01 meter shy of her collegiate best in the high jump after clearing 1.29 meters.
"I'm very proud of the pentathletes," said Ricks. "They did a great job holding their composure and focus throughout the five events. They learned a lot at this meet that will help them as they move forward in learning these technical events and most of all had fun working together."
Up Next for the Knights
Carleton heads back across the Cannon River for the meet's second day. Field events start at 10:00 a.m., and racing on the track begins at 11:00 a.m.
