NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College men's track & field team sent a handful of student-athletes across town to compete on the first day of the St. Olaf Invitational and Multi.
Roy Llewellyn ran the 5000-meter distance for the first time at an indoor meet and posted a time of 15:13.24, good for second place among the 49 runners entered in the event. He was edged out at the line by 0.05 seconds.
The other five Carleton runners in the event also posted personal bests.
Travis Brown took fifth and
Torte Torstenson placed sixth, crossing the line at 15:23.74 and 15:27.06, respectively.
Simon Chambers-Trubatch (15:46.95),
Andrew Jamison (16:06.86), and
Gus Schafer (16:11.46) rounded out the Knights' entries.
Reed White (4.10 meters) was fourth and
James Gates (3.95 meters) tied for sixth in the pole vault.
Soren Kaster sits in second place after the first day of competition in the heptathlon. He started the day with a time of 7.44 in the 60-meter dash, then soared 5.91 meters in the long jump, measured 10.79 meters in the shot put, and cleared 1.71 meters in the high jump to total 2,384 points over the first four events. Saturday's action will include the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault, and 1000-meter run.

Carleton heads back across the Cannon River for the meet's second day. The heptathlon resumes at 9:00 a.m., followed by field events at 10:00 a.m. and racing on the track at 11:00 a.m.
