MIRAMAR BEACH, Florida. – The Carleton College men's golf team is tied for twelfth out of 24 teams competing at the Golfweek Fall Invitational in Florida at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort.
The top three teams are separated by three strokes, led by Southwestern University at 285 (+1), Wittenberg University is in second place at 286 (+2), and in third place is Trinity University at 287 (+3). The Knights shot 298 (+14) as a team on Day One.
"The guys battled through some tough conditions today. It was a slow, hot round of golf," said Carleton head coach
Sloan Wallgren. "We are looking to regroup and move up the leaderboard tomorrow. As the first group out in the morning, we are looking to capitalize on some great early conditions."
Justin Rodriguez paced the team with a one-under-par 70 in Sunday's opening round. The junior shot three-under-par on the back nine with six pars and three birdies and is currently in sixth place on the leaderboard.
Junior
Sam Higaki and sophomore
Dillon Croco both posted scores of 75 (+4) over the first 18 holes. The pair is among a group tied for 47th place in a field that includes 120 golfers.
First-year
Austin Mak shot 78 (+7), followed by senior
Gordon Walker with an 81 (+10).
