ELK RIVER, Minn. – The Carleton College men's golf team is tied for fourth place out of 16 teams following the first round of the Twin Cities Classic. Junior
Sam Higaki is currently in a tie for second place on the leaderboard after shooting a one-over-par 71 on Day One.
The host team, Gustavus Adolphus College, is currently in the lead with a team score of 293 (+13). Nebraska Wesleyan University and Concordia College (MN) are tied for second place at 300 (+20). The Knights are currently tied with the College of St. Scholastica in fourth place at 301 (+20), trailed closely by sixth-place St. Olaf College with a score of 302 (+21).
"Elk River Country Club played very difficult today," said Carleton head coach
Sloan Wallgren. "The team battled some very windy conditions on a very tight golf course. We are going to get some rest tonight and try to come out tomorrow at Le Sueur Country Club and have a great day."
Higaki's round included a stretch of six holes with four birdies on his way to shooting one-over-par. He is in a tie for second place and one stroke behind the leader, Concordia's Ryan Engel.
Senior
Gordon Walker is tied for fourth place after the opening road carding a two-over-par 72. Walker's round included an eagle on hole No. 5.
Junior
Justin Rodriguez completed round one with a score of 77 (+7) and is tied for 27th place in the field of 85 golfers.
First-year
Austin Mak rounded out the scoring for the Knights with an 81 (+11). He is in a tie for 62nd place.
Sophomore
Dillon Croco also shot an 81 (+11) and is among the group tied in 62nd place.
First-year
Oscar Peche and sophomore
Gareth Birney competed as individual entrants and finished at +8 (78) and +9 (79), respectively.
Up Next for the Knights
Round two will be played on Sunday at Le Sueur Country Club. Carleton will tee off at 10:00am.
