CoSIDA names Aaron Forman a First Team Academic All-American

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Carleton College goalkeeper Aaron Forman '21 (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward) was selected to the 2020-21 Academic All-America® Division III Men's Soccer Team in voting by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The Academic All-America program recognizes excellence in both the classroom and competition.

Forman was previously named to the Academic All-District 6 First Team, which advanced him to the national ballot. Carleton student-athletes have now won the Academic All-America Award a total of 30 times overall, including 9 first-team selections, 16 second-team picks, and 5 third-teamers. (SEE FULL LIST OF CARLETON HONOREES BELOW.)

Forman went 29-7-4 as a starter with the Knights, and his 0.71 career goals against average ranked 15th in D-III among active players. In 2018, he led the North Region with 0.55 goals against average and 11 shutouts as the Knights advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championships. The following fall, Forman factored in each of Carleton's MIAC-best 10 shutouts, and he paced MIAC goalkeepers—among those with as many minutes played—with a 0.89 goals against average.

A History major with a 3.92 GPA, Forman earned multiple Academic All-MIAC Awards. He moved into the starting lineup as a sophomore and started 40 games overall the next two years. Carleton did not play intercollegiate matches during the 2020-21 academic year due to COVID precautions.

This year's Academic All-America list for Division III included 33 players, divided up equally among first, second, and third-teams. Each of these units was comprised of one goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders, and three forwards.

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference saw two others players honored as well, Gustavus Adolphus College forward Cole Schwartz joined Forman on the Academic All-America First Team, while University of St. Thomas defender Tom Hultsch was a second-team pick.

To be eligible for the Academic All-District and Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his current institution, and be nominated by his sports information director.

Due to the variety in games played across conferences and across divisions in college athletics during the 2020-21 academic year, this year's CoSIDA Academic All-District and Academic All-America Teams for men's soccer are based on career statistics.
