Ben Pennell voted to CSC Academic All-America Team

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Carleton College senior Ben Pennell was voted to the 2025-26 Academic All-America® Men's Soccer Team by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) for his performance on the field and in the classroom. Pennell, a chemistry major, was named to the AAA second team after previously earning Academic All-District recognition.

A total of 252 players were on the Academic All-America ballot this year, with 11 each named to the first, second, and third teams. Only 0.37 percent of all NCAA men's soccer players earned Academic All-America recognition in 2025.

This is the fifth time that a member of Carleton men's soccer program earned Academic All-America honors. Overall, Carleton student-athlete have earned 40 Academic All-America awards, with 11 of those being first-team selections, 21 second-team selections, and 8 third-teamers (see full list below).

Additionally, Pennell was tabbed as a United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-Region.

Earlier this fall, Pennell was name to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region Team for the second time in his career. He paced the MIAC and was tied for 10th in NCAA Division III with 12 goals through first 12 games this season, including hat trick vs. Lincoln, before suffering a season-ending knee injury. Pennell was on the field to start the Senior Day season finale but was subbed out after a minute of play, so he concluded the year tied for 11th in Division III at 0.92 goals per game and tied for 17th at 2.00 points per game. His four game-winning goals were fourth in the conference during the regular season.

Pennell finished with 35 career goals—tied for second-most in team history—along with 15 assists for 85 career points. All of those totals would have surely been higher had he not missed 15 games over last two seasons due to injury.
