Box Score ST. PETER, Minn. – The Carleton College baseball team dropped the finale of its three-game weekend series against Gustavus Adolphus, falling 9-2 on Sunday.
Steve Antrim (Fy./Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest) was the lone Knight with a multi-hit performance, going 2-for-4 with a walk.
Gustavus (14-1, 9-1 MIAC) scored multiple runs in four different innings and secured its 10th consecutive victory.
Gustie leadoff hitter Bryce Novak jumpstarted the offense by hitting the first pitch he saw in the bottom of the first for an opposite field home run. That started a day that saw him go 4-for-4 and hit for the cycle. The hosts added another run in inning.
Carleton (2-8, 0-8 MIAC) trimmed the deficit in half during the top of the third inning. Back-to-back singles by Antrim and
Travis Brown (Sr./St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) preceded a RBI groundout by
Alec Kotler (Jr./Chicago, Ill./Latin School of Chicago).
Gustavus scored twice in the fourth and two more runs in the fifth.
The Knights other tally came on a RBI grounder off the bat of
Cayten Gardner (Jr./Claremont, Calif./Claremont) to pull the visitors within 6-2 in the sixth inning.
Hopes of a comeback slipped away when Nick Azar connected for a two-run homer in the bottom of the frame.
