COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The Carleton College baseball team found itself in early holes in both games and dropped a MIAC doubleheader at Saint John’s University by scores of 8-5 and 3-1. The Knights wasted a solid effort by lefthanded starting pitcher Paul Dimick (Northfield, Minn./Northfield), who went the distance in game two. It was his fourth consecutive outing with two earned runs or less.

Saint John’s jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the opener, plating two runs in the first, four more in the second, and the final pair in the fourth, all against Carleton starting pitcher Jacob Anderson (Sr./Anoka, Minn./Anoka). The bulk of the damage was done by the top third of the Saint John’s lineup as the first three hitters went a combined 6-for-7 with six runs scored and six RBI over the front four frames.

Meanwhile, Johnnie righthander Connor Cline carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning, but that’s when the Knights broke through for five runs on four hits, two walks and a hit batter. Unfortunately for Carleton, the deficit was too large to overcome

The Knights offense struggled again in game two. They did scratch out five singles, including Patrick Philley (Jr./Gig Harbor, Wash./Charles Wright Acad.) run-scoring base hit in the fourth, but Carleton advanced just one other baserunner into scoring position against the Johnnies’ Brett Kramer.

Dimick went the distance for the second straight start, yielding all three runs—two earned—on eight hits with no walks and a pair of strikeouts. He gave up single tallies in the first, second and fifth innings.

Carleton shortstop Kevin Johnson (Fy./St. Anthony, Minn./DeLaSalle) was on base four times on the day, including a team-best two hits in the nightcap.

The Knights return home to Mel Taube Field for a nine-inning non-conference matchup against Crown College on Monday, April 18 at 3:30 p.m.
