NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The bats came alive for the Carleton College baseball team as the Knights won their home opener, 11-3, over Presentation College. Carleton recorded its highest scoring output of the season. Ben Walsh (Fy./New Canaan, Conn./St. Paul School) contributed a three-hit day, and Ray Yong (Fy./Elmhurst, Ill./York) reached base five times and added three RBI.

While the offense showed signs of coming out of its early-season slumber, the Carleton pitching staff worked around some control issues to holds the Saints to just three runs. After starter Ted Harmon (So./Edina, Minn./Edina) worked 4.0 innings of one-run ball, Anderson Cole (Fy./Aspen, Colo./Aspen) entered from the bullpen and tossed a trio of scoreless frames for his first victory of the year.

Carleton played small ball to tally a pair of unearned runs in the first inning. Two walks, two sac bunts and two errors helped the Knights push across a pair despite failing to get the ball out of the infield.

Yong tripled home Walsh in the second, and Carleton plated a trio of two-out runs in the third to put the home team in front, 6-0.

Meanwhile, Harmon was slicing through the Presentation lineup, thanks in part to a Carleton defense that turned three double plays on the afternoon.

Carleton opens MIAC action this Saturday when the Knights host defending conference champion University of St. Thomas at Mel Taube Field. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. Knights Online will provide live stats and live audio of both portions of the doubleheader.
