THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The offense for the Carleton College baseball team has been on vacation much of the first three days of the team’s spring break trip. The Knights most recent defeat was the squad’s second straight shutout—this one by an 11-0 score at California Lutheran—and the team has scored one run in the last 30 innings.

The Kingsmen (14-6) struck first in the second inning off starter Anderson Cole (Fy./Aspen, Colo.), tallying three runs on three hits. Cole (0-1) would make it to the fifth before Cal Lutheran again tallied three more runs to extend the lead to 6-0.

Meanwhile, Kingsmen starter Ian Durham (1-2) dominated Knights hitters on the mound, facing the minimum through the first three innings. The only trouble he faced came in the fourth when he allowed two walks before escaping the mini-jam.

The Knights (0-7) broke up Durham’s bid for a no-hitter in the sixth inning on a David Ames (Sr./Riverwoods, Ill./Deerfield) single to right field. Durham struck out the side in the seventh and finished with six strikeouts and only one hit allowed.

Mike Holter (Fy./Centennial, Colo./Valor Christian School) made his debut on the mound for the Knights going two innings in relief, allowing two runs (one earned).

The Knights are back in action tomorrow, March 19, at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The game is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. PDT/1 p.m. CDT.
