NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Thanks to eight All-Conference performances, the Carleton College men's track & field team is in fourth place after the first full day of competition at the MIAC Outdoor Championships.
Gabe Nichols started the day by placing fourth in the 1,500-meter run with a season-best time of 3:54.39.
Dashiell Coyier took 10th at 3:59.96, while
Max Whalen (PR of 4:16.21),
Emerson Lange (4:18.65),
Ravi Achar (4:23.82), and
Kyle Thompson (4:31.50) placed 21st, 23rd, 26th, an 28th respectively.
Carleton's entry in the 4x800-meter relay took fourth place, earning All-MIAC Honorable Mention, as
Ronen Silberman,
Indy Lyness,
Jacob Hopkins, and
Gabe Nichols combined on a time of 7:55.53.
Roy Llewellyn and
Travis Brown both received All-MIAC Honorable Mention as they finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 10,000-meter run. Llewellyn established a new personal-best time of 31:51.19, while Brown registered a new PR of 31:51.8.
Simon Chambers-Trubatch (34:01.03) and
Andrew Jamison (34:01.04) crossed the line in 16th and 17th places, respectively.
Carleton had three scorers in the pole vault.
James Gates took third place, earning All-MIAC status in the process, after clearing 4.50 meters.
Soren Kaster, who finished third in the MIAC Decathlon last week, took home All-Conference Honorable Mention in the pole vault as he was sixth at 4.40 meters.
Reese Anderson, who was fifth in the decathlon, tied for eighth place with a height of 4.30 meters, and
Reed White finished 14th after clearing 4.20 meters.
Anderson went directly from pole vault to the javelin competition, and his final throw (52.80 meters) was more than 10 feet better than he had done with any of his previous five attempts on the day and jumped him into fourth place, earning All-MIAC Honorable Mention. The toss propelled him in front of teammate
Dash Schwab (49.78 meters), who took fifth and also claimed All-Conference Honorable Mention.
Elsewhere on Friday,
James Alexander was 16th in the 400-meter dash prelims after turning in a personal-best time of 51.07. Kaster took 12th in the prelims for the 400-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 57.63.
In the prelims of the 200-meter dash,
Asher Nathan finished 16th with a time of 22.47.
Up Next for the Knights
The MIAC Championships conclude on Saturday. Field events start at 12:00 p.m., with racing on the track beginning at 1:30 p.m.
