NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Carleton College junior Soren Kaster is third at the midpoint in the MIAC Decathlon. Teammate Reese Anderson is in 13th place.
 
Kaster has totaled 3,237 points though the first five events. He started the competition with a personal-best time of 11.38 in the 100-meter dash. He soared 6.38 meters in the long jump to establish a new PR and measured 10.48 meters in the shot put. Kaster cleared 1.71 meters in the high jump and finished day 1 with a time of 52.07 in the 400-meter dash.
 
Anderson clocked a season-best time of 11.80 in the 100-meter dash, measured 10.57 meters (PR) in the shot put, soared over the bar at a personal-best 1.74 meters in the high jump, and ran the 400-meter dash in 52.34. He has totaled 2,498 points despite earning no points in the long jump after fouling on each of his three attempts.
 
Reed White also began the competition for Carleton but pulled out after four events. He finished the 100-meter dash in 11.61, measured 5.80 meters in the long jump and 5.73 meters in the shot put, and cleared 1.50 meters in the high jump before removing himself from the competition.
 
Bailey Evans of Saint John's leads the 17-competitor field with 3,693 points. Connor McCormick is second at 3,313 points.
 
Friday's portion of the decathlon includes the 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin, and 1500-meter run.
