Knights in sixth after opening round of SJU Spring Invitational

SAUK RAPIDS, Minn. – The Carleton College men's golf team is in sixth place out of 15 teams at this weekend's SJU Spring Invitational. The opening round was held on Saturday at Wapicada Golf Club.
 
Gordon Walker led the Knights, shooting a two-under par 70 on the day with a round that included two birdies and an eagle on the par-five 10th hole. He is tied for fourth heading into tomorrow's final round.
 
Justin Rodriguez carded an opening-round 74 (+2) and is currently tied for 19th place.
 
Sam Higaki and Dillon Croco both shot rounds of 75 (+3) to round out the scoring for the Knights. Higaki had a team-high four birdies on the day.
 
Austin Mak was the other member of Carleton's starting lineup. His round culminated with a birdie on the 18th on his way to a final score of 79 (+7).
 
Oscar Peche played as an individual entrant and shot a 77 on the day.
 
The tournament leader is the University of Wisconsin-Stout at 290 (+2). They are followed closely by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Gustavus Adolphus College, and Saint John's University, all at 291 (+3). The Saint John's "B team" shot 293 (+5), just ahead of Carleton at 294 (+6).

Up Next for the Knights
The second round will be held at Monticello Country Club on Sunday, April 26, and opens with a shotgun start at 10:00 a.m.
