WAVERLY, Iowa — Carleton College senior
Hannah Preisser won the 5000-meter run at the NCAA Final Qualifier hosted by Wartburg College. Her season-best time of 17:06.75 was good for a seven-plus second margin of victory.
This meet was held on a flat 200-meter track. Because this year's NCAA Indoor Championships will be held on the banked track at the Birmingham (Ala.) CrossPlex, Preisser's flat-track time is converted to a time of 16:58.95, which currently ranks 22nd in the nation.
The top 20 declared student-athletes will be accepted into the NCAA Championships, so Preisser will have to wait and see if two or more athletes ahead of her on the 5000-meter board elect to forego running that race to focus on competing at a shorter distance.
The list of NCAA qualifiers will be posted on NCAA.com by 7:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. CT on Sunday, March 8.
