RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Carleton College men's track & field team had a half-dozen runners in action on Saturday competing at a pair of Spring Break meets in California.
 
At the Johnny Mathis Invitational hosted by San Francisco State, Gus Schafer made his outdoor debut and crossed the line in the 5000-meter run at 15:34.58, a nearly 37-second improvement over his previous collegiate-best. He was second in his heat and 25th of 49 finishers in a field that included 23 current NCAA Division II racers.
 
Farther down the Pacific Coast, the other five Knights competed at the UC-Riverside Spring Break Classic. Record high temperatures were once again above 90 degrees at race time.
 
Emerson Lange and Ravi Achar competed in the 1500-meter run. Lange, racing this distance for the first time since the 2024 MIAC Championships, finished at 4:15.45, while Achar crossed the line at 4:21.42.
 
Asher Nathan and Isaac Robertston took part in the 400-meter dash, covering the distance in 50.86 and 52.07, respectively, as they finished 18th and 21st. The 25-runner field included four NCAA Division I entrants and a dozen NCAA D-II racers.
 
Reed White made his debut in the 400-meter hurdles and placed 10th with a time of 59.72.
 
Up Next for the Knights
Carleton is slated to have three entrants in the Jim Klein Decathlon hosted by Westmont College on March 26-27. An additional three athletes are set to compete at Cal State San Marcos on the 27th.
