MINNEAPOLIS – The Carleton College men's track & field team competed at the Gopher Classic and accumulated a dozen personal bests.
Gabe Nichols finished fourth in the mile run and sixth in the 800-meter run. His mile time of 4:13.09 is No. 2 in the MIAC and No. 23 in NCAA Division III this season. He established a new indoor personal best with a time of 1:58.32 in the 800-meter race.
First-years
Dashiell Coyier and
Jacob Hopkins ran PRs in the mile, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively, in the unseeded race with times of 4:24.32 and 4:24.62. Not to be out done,
Indy Lyness (4:20.68) dropped his season best for that distance by nine seconds. Hopkins came back later in the day to establish another personal best, this one in the 800-meter run (2:00.18).
Emerson Lange bested his previous indoor PR in the 800m by more than three seconds while breaking the 2-minute barrier for the first time as he crossed the line at 1:59.83.
James Alexander joined in the fun by dropping his 600-meter personal best by an incredible 5.5 seconds with a finishing time of 1:25.72.
Joining the PR parade were
Ronen Silberman (2:02.68) in the 800m,
Isaac Robertson (23.83) and
James Gates (24.70) in the 200m, and
Asher Nathan in the 400m (51.62). Nathan came back and won his heat of the 200-meter dash, nipping a NCAA Division I racer right at the finish line with a time of 23.24.
Roy Llewellyn dropped his season-best time in the 3000-meter run by seven seconds while finishing as the top NCAA D-III runner and fourth overall.
Martin Moshfeghi won his heat of the 3000m with
Kyle Thompson finishing third, with both Knights setting new personal records of 9:10.48 and 9:23.46, respectively. Moshfeghi's time was an improvement of 13 seconds.

Carleton will host the Meet of the Hearts on Saturday, Feb. 24. Competition is slated to begin at 11:00 a.m.
