NORTHFIELD, Minn. — The Carleton College men's track & field team posted a baker's dozen top-10 results, including a pair of victories, at the 13-team St. Olaf Invitational that wrapped up on Saturday. The highlight performances for the Knights were wins from
Daniel Scheider in the 600 meters and
Indy Lyness in the 1,000-meter race.
The day's activity started with the second half of the heptathlon.
Soren Kaster finished in second place with a two-day total of 4,551 points. On Saturday, he clocked a time of 9.04 in the 60-meter hurdles, soared 4.20 meters in the pole vault, and was first to the line in the 1000-meter run with a new personal-best time of 2:50.86.
Jackson Reade made his collegiate debut in the high jump by clearing 1.85 meters, which is the fifth-highest mark in the conference and good for fifth place at this meet.
Lucas Lenz had Carleton's other top-10 result in the field events, finishing ninth in the triple jump at 11.66 meters.
Emerson Lange led the way in the mile run, placing fifth and lowering his season-best time by nine seconds as he finished at 4:26.44.
Both Carleton entrants in the 400-meter dash won their respective heats, with
Isaac Robertson taking third overall at 52.64 with
James Alexander close behind in fourth at 52.66.
Scheider powered to first place in the 600-meter run in 1:25.19 to give the Knights their first win of the meet.
Darren Nakahata crossed the line at 1:30.70 to claim eighth place.
Lyness followed with a strong performance against a stacked field the 1000-meter run, using a ferocious kick to come from fourth place to win right at the line by 0.08 seconds with a time of 2:32.99.
Jacob Hopkins finished seventh at 2:36.54.
Asher Nathan established a new personal record as he placed fourth in the 200-meter dash after crossing the line at 23.21.
Gabe Nichols finished as runner up in the 3000-meter race, posting the MIAC's second-fastest time this season at 8:26.49. Teammate
Dashiell Coyier finished fourth with the No. 3 time in the MIAC this season (8:45.22).
Carleton's 4x400m relay finished second as Alexander, Nathan, Lyness, and Scheider combined on a time of 3:30.69.

Carleton is set to send a contingent to compete at the Gopher Classic hosted by the University of Minnesota. Competition at the U of M Fieldhouse is slated to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7.
