Sophie McManus' 1500m race leads Knights on Day 1 of MIAC Outdoor Championships

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Carleton College women's track & field team had a pair of all-conference performances on Friday at the MIAC Outdoor Championships. Sophie McManus was the runner up in the 1500-meter run, and the Knights took third in the 4x800-meter relay.

Carleton sits seventh in the team standings after an afternoon/evening of competition that saw temperatures in the 80s.

McManus scored the first team points for Carleton as she was the runner up in the 1500-meter race, crossing the line at 4:44.11. She was 11th in her heat early on but picked her way through the crowd and into fifth place by the end of the first lap and third place soon after. McManus caught and passed the second-place runner with about 100 meters remaining.

Aliya Larsen placed 10th overall in the same event at 4:51.04, while Madeleine Reckmeyer established a new PR of 5:00.50 as she finished 23rd.

Willa Bishop added to the team score as she competed in the javelin throw, taking eighth place with a top measurement of 32.07 meters. Claire Miyoshi was 16th in the long jump at 4.53 meters.

Lara Erickson won her heat of the 800-meter run and automatically qualified for Saturday's finals. She clocked a time of 2:15.85, second-fastest of 26 runners during the prelims.

Carleton's entry in the 4x800-meter relay finish third overall with a time of 9:30.57, which ranks 10th in recorded team history. That performance earned Charlotte Kusch, Nora Daley, Libby Rowland, and Erickson all-conference status.

Due to the heat, the 10,000-meter run was pushed back and raced under the lights at Macalester Stadium. Maggie Votruba placed 14th at 42:15.83.
