NORTHFIELD, Minn. –
James Gates won the pole vault competition to lead the Carleton College men's track & field team's small contingent at the Ole Open. Overall, the Knights posted 11 personal bests on the day.
Gates cleared 4.25 meters, matching the second-highest figure of his rookie season. Teammate
Ansel Williams took seventh with a personal-best 3.65 meters, while
Tim Adams tied for eighth at 3.50 meters.
Max Jones and
Dash Schwab both recorded personal bests while notching fourth-place results elsewhere in the field events. Jones measured 6.52 meters in the long jump, while Schwab recorded a distance of 45.55 meters in the javelin.
The Knights started the day on the track with a fifth-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay. Jones,
James Alexander,
Ethan Cline-Cole, and
Asher Nathan combined on a time of 43.98.
Nathan later finished third in the 200-meter dash with a personal-best time of 22.41. He also placed eighth in the 100-meter dash at 11.53. Alexander took seventh out of 27 racers in the 400-meter dash after crossing the line in a personal-best 51.13.
Lucas Heldman recorded a new PR of 1:01.57 while finishing eighth in the 400-meter hurdles.
Tommy Applebaum was 11th at 1:04.08.
Ronen Silberman raced the 800-meter run, turning in a personal-best time of 2:02.45.
Carleton had six team members take part in the 1500-meter run, with four of them turning in personal-best times:
Pranav Khadkikar (4:08.50),
Ravi Achar (4:09.63),
Kyle Thompson (4:14.63), and
Ben Mazor (4:15.98). Additionally,
Samuel Reiter posted a time of 4:15.45, and
Simons Chambers-Trubatch finished at 4:15.98.
Up Next for the Knights
Carleton heads to the MIAC Outdoor Championships, which will be hosted by Macalester College on May 9-10. Competition in the field events begins at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, with action on the track starting 30 minutes later. Saturday's events get under way at 12:00 p.m. with field events, while racing on the track starting at 1:30 p.m.
