ST. PAUL, Minn. –
Gabe Nichols pulled away on the last lap to win the 5,000-meter run on the final day of competition at the 2025 MIAC Outdoor Championships. The Carleton College men's track & field team finished seventh in the standings.
The day's action began with the field events.
Reese Anderson took seventh in the javelin throw with a distance of 49.20 meters, while
Dash Schwab concluded his first conference meet in 10th place at 45.75 meters.
Senior
Ethan Cline-Cole set a new personal record in the triple jump, measuring 12.99 meters on the final attempt of his collegiate career to earn 13th place.
James Gates finished fourth in the pole vault, collecting All-MIAC Honorable Mention. He stayed clean — with no misses — while clearing four consecutive heights, including an outdoor personal best 4.37 meters.
The first event on the track was the 4x100-meter relay, with Carleton's entry finishing 10th at 44.19.
In the 3000-meter steeplechase,
Torte Torstenson established a new personal record bymore than 10 seconds with his time of 9:37.72, good for seventh place.
The finals of the 400-meter dash saw
Daniel Scheider and
Asher Nathan both score points in the team competition as they established PRs of 49.18 and 49.50, respectively, good for seventh and eighth places. Seven of the nine racers established new personal bests
Indy Lyness placed eighth in the 800-meter run, posting a season-best time of 1:56.31.
Nichols won the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:03.56. The pace was slow over the first half of the race, and he was still third with four laps remaining. Nichols, the runner up in the event at last year's conference meet, moved into second place with 800 meters left and grabbed the lead with little over 400 meters still to go. He turned on the jets, pulling away for the 4.5-second victory.
"Gabe executed a strategic 5K race plan perfectly," said Carleton head coach
Dave Ricks. "He stayed near the leaders until the final two laps and then won decisively. This ended a busy weekend with for him with the 1500, 4x800, and 5K races."
Ravi Achar finished 12th with a personal-best time of 15:39.20.
Roy Llewellyn was 15th at 15:39.95, while
Ryan Bernstein (16:03.11),
Kyle Thompson (16:16.22),
Travis Brown (16:27.48), and
Pranav Khadkikar (16:32.87) placed 22nd, 25th, 26th, and 27th, respectively.
Carleton concluded the championships with a fourth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay, earning All-MIAC Honorable Mention for
James Alexander,
Josh Meier, Nathan, and Scheider They combined on a season-best time of 3:18.78.

Carleton might utilize a last chance meet next week to permit select Knights one final opportunity improve their national ranking ahead of selections to the NCAA Outdoor Championships to be held May 22-24 Geneva, Ohio.
