NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Carleton College junior Stephanie Baranov sits 16th out of 18 entrants after the first day of competition at the MIAC Heptathlon. She accumulated 1,818 points on Thursday after turning in personal best performances in three of the four events.

Baranov, who is competing in her first career heptathlon, posted a personal-best time of 19.92 in the 100-meter hurdles. She followed that up by clearing 1.32 meters to set a new PR in the high jump.

Her best attempt in the shot put measured 8.59 meters, and Baranov wrapped up the day with a new PR of 27.86 in the 200-meter dash.

"It is pure joy watching Stephanie compete," said Carleton head coach Donna Ricks. "Stephanie is new to many of these events, contesting several of these events for the first time last week. She demonstrates a love for sport, is dedicated, and works hard."

Day 2 of the MIAC Heptathlon begins at 12:30 p.m. with the long jump and also includes the javelin and 800-meter run.
