Nora Daley wins steeplechase debut as Knights compete on Day 2 of the Rider-Bolstorff Invite

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Nora Daley won the steeplechase as the Carleton College women's track & field team finished 11th of 16 teams at the Janis Rider-Doug Bolstorff Invitational hosted by Macalester College.

It was not obvious to most in attendance that this was Daley's debut in the steeplechase as she posted a winning time of 11:26.02, good for ninth place on Carleton's all-time list.

"Wow! Nora rocked her first steeple race," said Carleton head coach Donna Ricks. "She demonstrated that she is a natural steeplechase runner, conquering the barriers and finding a good running rhythm. A very impressive first career effort."

Willa Bishop finished third out of 31 entrants in the javelin throw, uncorking a toss of 32.82 meters on her first attempt of the day. That was good for a new personal best by more than four feet. She also measured 26.83 in the discus.

"Willa joined us in the spring to contest the javelin and the discus," Ricks said. "I learned today that she had not set a personal best in the javelin since sophomore year of high school, and she is consistently throwing farther than her best in high school and today achieved another personal best. The good weather has allowed Coach Hasenstein and Willa to get in solid throwing days."

Claire Miyoshi established a new PR in the triple jump, placing 11th with a distance of 9.92 meters on her final attempt. She also took 12th of 28 entrants in the long jump after measuring 4.80 meters.

"Claire is really responding to Jesse Schoen's coaching," said Ricks. "Throughout the season she has focused on the technical aspects of the jumps, and together her and Parker Collins are gaining a wealth of knowledge and seeing continued improvement."

Collins measured 4.27 meters in the long jump and 9.06 meters in the triple jump.

Alice Islam posted times of 13.24 in the 100-meter dash and 28.18 for the 200-meter distance. Michelle Musa ran the 100-meter race in 13.29.

Stephanie Baranov was the busiest Knight, competing in four events: 200-meter dash (28.36), long jump (4.09 meters), javelin (PR of 23.44 meters), and 100-meter hurdles.

Up Next for the Knights
Carleton will send a contingent to the Meet of the UnSaintly to be hosts by Hamline University on Wednesday, April 30.
