IRVINE, Calif. – A half-dozen members of the Carleton College women's track & field team competed against top-level competition at the Vince O'Boyle Track & Field Classic. The 15-team meet hosted by University of California, Irvine included seven NCAA Division I programs and another six from NCAA D-II schools.
"Having an opportunity to compete over spring break has been a tremendous opportunity for our athletes," said Carleton head coach
Donna Ricks. "Being able to focus on racing and gaining experience against a variety of divisions has built their confidence. These women have held their own out here, and I am very proud of them."
Alice Islam was the lone member of the small contingent to compete in a field event and cleared 1.41 meters in the high jump.
Sophie McManus established a new PR in the 1500-meter run, clocking a time of 4:44.59 to place third overall in the field of 40 runners, 28 of which compete for NCAA D-I programs.
Lara Erickson and
Kayla Marx finished 17th and 18th, respectively, with times of 4:59.93 and 5:00.97.
Charlotte Kusch was Carleton's top finisher in the 100-meter dash, clocking a time of 13.25.
Michelle Musa crossed the line at 13.69
Kusch returned to the oval and took part in the 400-meter hurdles, posting a time of 1:12.07.
Islam and Musa both raced the 200-meter dash, with the former finishing at 28.06 and the latter at 28.35.
