Soren Kaster (6th) and Reese Anderson (8th) compete at Klein/Nwaba decathlon

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Carleton College's Soren Kaster and Reese Anderson began Spring Break by competing in the decathlon at the Klein/Nwaba Combined Events hosted by Westmont College. Kaster finished sixth out of 18 entrants with 6,084 points. He posted results in all 10 events that were either equal to or better than he turned in at this same competition last spring. Meanwhile, Anderson totaled a persoanl-best 5,545 points to placed eighth overall as he set three PRs overall and exceeded his performances at this same meet in 8 of the 10 events.
 
Kaster began the two-day competition by clocking a time of 11.65 in the 100-meter dash, while Anderson finished at 11.78, narrowly missing his personal best.
 
Kaster measured 5.81 meters during the long jump, and Anderson's best leap measured an outdoor personal-best 5.65 meters.
 
Kaster set a new PR in the shot put as his top effort went a personal-best 11.10 meters, fourth-best in the field. Anderson's opening effort was his best, measuring an outdoor personal-best 9.88 meters.
 
The high jump saw Kaster clear 1.66 meters to match his outdoor personal-best. Meanwhile, Anderson cleared 1.54 meters for 419 points.
 
The final event on Day 1 was the 400-meter dash. Running in different heats, the two Knights posted similar times. Kaster crossed the line at 52.20 — good for 716 points — while Anderson finished at 52.72 to collect 694 points.
 
Midway through the competition, Kaster was eighth with 3,047 points, while Anderson was 16th at 2,798 points. Both Knights improved their standing on Friday.
 
Day 2 began with the 110-meter hurdles. Kaster was sixth-fastest in the field, posting a time of 16.47. Anderson covered the distance in a personal-best 16.79.
 
Kaster's best toss in the discus went 27.50 meters (416 points), while Anderson posted a distance of 24.97 meters.
 
Kaster cleared 4.55 meters in the pole vault, easily the top height in the competition. Anderson was third overall in the event as he established a new PR after clearing 4.15 meters.
 
Kaster's best heave in the javelin measured 42.56 meters, while Anderson had a 41.36-meter toss.
 
The decathlon wrapped up with the 1500-meter run. Kaster was fourth-fastest and posted a time of 4:39.11. Anderson crossed the line at 4:50.98.
