COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. –
Hannah Preisser and
Sophie McManus won the 5,000-meter run and mile run, respectively, to lead the Carleton College women's track & field team on the first full day of competition at the MIAC Indoor Championships. The Knights are currently 6th of 12 teams.
Preisser was content to run in third place for the opening 3000 meters of the race, but she took the lead on the 16th lap and did not look back. The junior finished at 17:21.48, good for a 20-second margin of victory. It was her first career conference track title.
Maggie Votruba also ran the 5K distance, finishing 17th at 20:27.86.
During the mile run, McManus took the lead on the second lap and secured the first indoor track title of her career. She posted a winning time of 5:07.73.
Aliya Larsen and
Libby Rowland earned all-conference honorable mention as they placed fourth and fifth, respectively, at 5:12.88 and 5:15.59.
Nora Daley also raced the event, finishing 13th overall at 5:27.99.
Lara Erickson earned All-MIAC status after finishing third in the 800-meter run with a season-best time of 2:18.42.
The 60-meter dash saw
Bianca Lott establish a new personal-best of 8.09, but she finished 10th and missed qualifying for the finals by only 0.03.
Carleton was the runner up in the distance medley relay as Rowland,
Hadley Twichell,
Celia Silverstein, and
Kayla Marx combined on a time of 12:31.06.
The MIAC Indoor Championships will include the 4x200-meter relay, 600-meter, 1000-meter run, 200-meter dash, 3000-meter run, and 4x400-meter relay in addition to the shot put, high jump, and triple jump.
