MANKATO, Minn. – Establishing personal bests was the theme of the day for the Carleton College men's track & field team at the Maverick Premier #2 meet hosted by Minnesota State, Mankato. The Knights finished fifth of eight teams, trailing one NCAA Division I program and a trio of NCAA D-II squads.
The day began with the pole vault, and it did not take long for the first personal record to fall.
Reese Anderson improved his previous indoor best by more than 17 inches and his overall PR by more than 13 inches after clearing 3.85 meters (12' 7.5").
Soren Kaster placed fifth after clearing 4.30 meters (14' 1.25"), and
Tim Adams' top performance measured 3.70 meters (12' 1.5").
Anderson took part in the first track event of the day, the 60-meter hurdles and set his second PR in as many events, clocking a time of 9.34.
The 60-meter dash saw
Max Jones establish a new personal by 0.01 as he posted a time of 7.31.
The mile run witnessed
Torte Torstenson (4:33.34),
Nathaniel Malchow (4:36.54), and
Andrew Jamison (4:37.16) each establish a new PR, with Jamison slicing more than 12 seconds off his previous personal best.
Ben Mazor (4:40.44) clocked a season best time, while
Travis Brown (4:33.66),
Ryan Bernstein (4:34.07), and
Ravi Achar (4:44.13) also competed in the event.
Daniel Scheider had an impressive PR in the 400-meter dash, dropping from 52.98 to 51.44 while winning his heat in "come from behind" fashion. For the third consecutive week,
James Alexander set a new personal best for the 400-meter distance, this time posting a time of 52.71.
Asher Nathan (52.80), and Anderson (53.39) turned in season-best performances, while
Samuel Reiter crossed the line at 53.72.
The 800-meter run was the only event without a new PR.
Josh Meier was the top D-III racer and finished at 1:57.15. Torstenson (2:07.21), Bernstein (2:07.67), Brown (2:08.96), Malchow (2:09.41),
Ronen Silberman (2:09.78), and Mazor (2:12.15) also competed in the event.
Nathan clocked a season-best time of 23.59 in the 200-meter dash, while Jones notched another PR, this time finishing at 24.19.
Up Next for the Knights
Carleton will head to the Tostrud Classic hosted by St. Olaf College on Friday, Feb. 21. That will the Knights' final tune-up for the upcoming MIAC Indoor Championships.
