Knights start season at Ole Opener

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College women's track & field team got the indoor season started at the Ole Opener. The Knights won two events and had six other top-five results at the nine-team competition.

"What a fun meet," said Carleton head coach Donna Ricks. "These women put an amazing effort into this first meet; this is going to be an exciting season."

First-years Charlotte Kusch and Madeleine Reckmeyer both claimed event victories in their collegiate debuts. Kusch won the 400-meter dash by more than two seconds, covering the distance in 1:00.10. Reckmeyer earned the top spot in the 1000-meter run as she posted a time of 3:21.40, good for more than a five-second margin of victory.

Other top-five results for the Knights:
• Hannah Preisser and Sophie McManus finished second and fourth, respectively, in the 3000-meter run. The former crossed the line at 10:02.13 (seventh in NCAA Division III this season) while the latter did so at 10:14.59 (21st in D-III). The event winner was Caitlyn Osani, an unattached runner from the University of Minnesota (D-I) and her teammate Grace Mignone finished third.
• Carleton's 4x200-meter relay took second place as Bianca Lott, Hadley Twichell, Michelle Musa, and Alice Islam combined on a time of 1:51.45.
• Kusch earned fourth place in the 200-meter dash after crossing the line at 27.49.
• The 4x400-meter relay of Twichell, Celia Silverstein, Kayla Marx, and Islam finished at 4:20.82, good for fourth place.
• Islam cleared 1.45 meters in the high jump to earn fifth place.

"There are many positives to take away from today," Ricks said. "If this team continues to put forth this type of effort in every meet, we are going to see some tremendous performances throughout the year."
