NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College men's track & field team won two events as the Knights got the indoor season going in full swing by competing at the nine-team Ole Opener.
 
Josh Meier and 
Daniel Schieder finished 1-2 in the 600-meter run as they crossed the line at 1:24.77 and 1:25.91, respectively.
                                  
Sophomore 
Soren Kaster and newcomer 
James Gates captured the top two spots in the pole vault. Kaster cleared 4.15 meters, while Gates' top attempt measured 4.00 meters.
 
Other top-5 results for the Knights:
• the 3000-meter run saw 
Gabe Nichols cross the line as runner up with a time of 8:27.80 while 
Torte Torstenson took fifth at 9:01.67. Nichols' time ranks No. 11 in Division III this season, while Torstenson was running his first-ever college track race.
• 
Ethan Cline-Cole placed fourth in the triple jump after measuring 12.45 meters.
• In the mile run, 
Emerson Lange placed fifth with a time of 4:39.34.
• Kaster was fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 8.94, which moved him into fourth place on Carleton's all-time performance list.
• The Knights entry in the 4x400-meter relay took fifth place as 
James Alexander, 
Hayden McDevitt, Scheider, and Meier covered the distance in 3:37.61.
