FARIBAULT, Minn. – The No. 16-ranked Carleton College women's golf team is fourth out of six teams after the first day of play at the D3 Central Region Preview.
Cynthia Lu leads the way for the Knights and is tied for fifth place after carding an opening-round 73.
No. 9 St. Catherine University leads with a team score of 291 (+3). Macalester is second at 303. The St. Catherine B-squad is next at 312, one shot ahead of Carleton, which is playing without All-American
Carter Sichol. Saint Benedict is fifth at 316 while St. Olaf's 332 rounded out the field on Saturday.
Lu tallied four birdies, three of them on the back nine at Legacy Golf.
Mindy Zhai carded a 78 after collecting three birdies.
Anna Lee, playing as an individual entrant in her first tournament for the Knights, posted a first-round score of 80.
Natalie Tatar and
Sarah Zheng are tied for 20th place after opening-round 81's.
Olivia Siebert carded an 83 on Saturday.
Sunday's final round will begin at 10:30 a.m.
