Knights launch season at ITA Midwest Regional

ST. PETER, Minn. – The Carleton College women's tennis program commenced the 2024-25 season by competing at the ITA Midwest Regional. Piper Brown advanced to the quarterfinals in the singles draw, while Amelia Asfaw and Mariam Nechiporuk progressed to the semifinals in doubles.

Each of the 11 Knights competed in either the singles or doubles draw, but not both.

Brown, Kiley Pickens, Zoe Rose, and Miriam Shteyman were each seeded within the top 32 singles players.

Brown won four matches, the last two in super tiebreakers. In the quarterfinals, she dropped a three-set match to the top seed in the 99-player field. After an opening-round bye, Pickens won twice before falling in the fourth round. Rose and Shteyman both made it to the third round. Clara Mast, making her collegiate debut, came up short to a seeded opponent in the first round.

Asfaw and Nechiporuk received an opening-round bye as the top seed in the doubles draw. Two years ago, that duo won the doubles bracket. This time around, they won three matches before coming up short against the No. 3-seeded duo.

Meanwhile, Amanda Black and Kat Smiricinschi dropped a heartbreaker in their first round doubles match, coming up just short 8-7 (7-5), while Ryann Witter and Ingrid Smith made it to the second round.

Up Next for the Knights
Carleton will play three road matches this week, traveling to Hamline University on Wed., Sept. 25 before competitions at Luther College (Sept. 28) and Concordia College-Moorhead (Sept. 29).
