Trio lands on CSC Academic All-District team for women's tennis

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Three members of the Carleton College women's tennis program received Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Communicators (CSC), recognizing performance on the court and in the classroom. Juniors Kiley Pickens, Kat Smiricinschi, and Ryann Witter were recognized for the first time.
 
To be nominated for this award, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average, must have participated in at least 75 percent of the team's dual matches, and be at least a sophomore academically and athletically.
 
Carleton was the runner-up in the MIAC regular season and the conference tournament. The Knights were nationally ranked for the final two months of the season, gong 14-6 overall and 9-1 in MIAC action. Carleton was 88-27 in singles matches this season, with a 53-7 mark in the MIAC. In doubles play, the Knights were 43-16 overall and 27-3 in the conference.
 
Pickens, a biology major, earned All-MIAC status in singles for the third consecutive year as she went 14-3 overall and 8-1 in conference matches. She added All-Conference recognition in doubles for the first time, thanks to an 11-3 ledger with a 7-1 mark in MIAC matches.
 
Smiricinschi, a computer Science and statistics double major, took home All-MAC honors for doubles. She appeared at all three doubles slots at some point during the season, winning all six conference matches and owning a 9-3 ledger overall. She also owned a 7-1 record in singles, including 5-1 against MIAC opponents.
 
Witter, a biology major, earned All-MIAC recognition for doubles for the third consecutive year. She was on an off-campus study program when the season began but re-joined the lineup upon her return and went 8-6 at No. 1 doubles with a 6-1 record during conference contests. Witter added a 7-7 ledger in singles.
