Box Score 2 NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College women's tennis team wrapped up a busy weekend of action that saw
Kiley Pickens and
Ryann Witter play at the ITA Midwest Regional — with the former advancing to the quarterfinals in singles — in addition to the Knights registering a 7-0 victory over Hamline University.
Carleton moved to 2-0 on the season with Sunday's sweep of the Pipers.
Against Hamline, Witter and
Kat Smiricinschi picked up a 6-1 win atop the doubles lineup, while
Varinn Sood and
Gabriela Cilella notched a 6-4 result at the second slot. Newcomers
Evelyn Hwang and
Linden Wadsworth completed the doubles sweep with a 6-0 win at the third spot.
The Knights won five of the singles matches in straight sets.
Peggy Fu secured a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles, with Smiricinschi adding a 6-0, 6-2 triumph at the third spot in the lineup. Hwang registered a 6-4, 6-2 victory at the fourth slot as Cilella contributed a 6-2, 6-2 result and Sood cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at the fifth and sixth spots, respectively.
Witter played at No. 1 singles for the first time and secured a 6-2, 6-7 (7-9), 1-0 (10-4) victory to close out the day.
At the ITA Regional that began on Friday, Witter opened the tournament with a come-from-behind 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5) victory over Caitlyn Stadter of UW-La Crosse before falling to No. 5 seed Michaela Clark of Cornell College in the second round by a 6-2, 6-4 tally.
Pickens, who was the No. 4 seed in the 98-player bracket, had a bye in the first round before topping Mary Breitbach of Loras 6-3, 6-2 and Adel Schneider of Macalester 6-1, 6-1 in the second and third rounds, respectively. Pickens then bested No. 17 seed Rika Cross of host Gustavus Adolphus 6-3, 6-3 in the fourth round before falling to Cross' teammate No. 9 Noor Omar in the quarterfinals 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.

Carleton will conclude the fall portion of its schedule with an Oct. 4 visit to College of St. Scholastica.
