Justin Rodriguez earns medalist honors as Knights prevail in dual

HASTINGS, Minn. – The Carleton College men's golf team prevailed in their dual with Gustavus Adolphus College at Emerald Greens Golf Course. The Knights were led by Justin Rodriguez who earned medalist honors after shooting seven-under par to lead the field.
 
"The guys played absolutely fantastic this weekend," said Carleton head coach Sloan Wallgren. "They put together two very solid rounds of golf and proved they can go very low."
 
Rodriguez carded a 68 in the first round and a 69 in Sunday's final round to finish the tournament with 137 total (-7). Those were the two lowest rounds of his collegiate career. His totals included seven birdies in the first round and five birdies in the second round.
 
Sam Higaki finished in second-place, two shots behind his teammate. Higaki concluded the weekend with 10 birdies on his way to five-under par (67+72=139).
 
Ryan Choi's first round was highlighted by an eagle and five birdies as he shot a tournament low score of 66. He carded a 76 on Sunday to finish the weekend at two-under par (66+72=142) and fourth place in the field of 15 golfers.
 
Gordan Walker shot a 73 each day to finish at +2 (73+73=146) and in fifth place. Gareth Birney (81-79=160) was the other member of the lineup for the Knights.

Dillon Croco played as an individual entrant and finished in a tie for ninth place at +8 (72+80=152). In round one, Croco had three consecutive birdies on holes 14, 15 and 16.
 
Carleton posted team scores of 274 and 290 for a two-day total of 564. The Gusties' B team shot 594 and their C team finished the tournament at 611. The top golfers for No. 24 Gustavus Adolphus were competing in Massachusetts where they won the Williams Invitational.
