Knights place eighth at SJU Fall Invitational

SARTELL, Minn. – The Carleton College men's golf team finished 8th out of 13 teams at the SJU Fall Invitational. Sam Higaki had the Knights' top individual performance, finishing in a five-way tie for 11th place.
 
Higaki led the Knights in the second round with a one-over par 73. He began the day on hole nine in the shot gun start and parred his first 12 holes of the day. He also had two birdies during the round and finished the tournament with a 36-hole score of 149 (+5, 76-73).
 
Justin Rodriguez carded a 77 on the day to bring his weekend total to 152 (+9, 76-77). Gordan Walker, who had six birdies throughout the tournament, finished the tournament with a score of 156 (+12, 76-80).
 
Gareth Birney's day included two birdies as he shot +5 (77) in the final round. His total score for the tournament was 158 (+14, 81-77). Dillon Croco carded an 80 on the day to bring his total to 161 (+17, 81-80).
 
No. 12 Saint John's won the tournament after finishing with a two-day score of 576 (E), 15 shots ahead of Concordia-Moorhead in second (+15, 591). Whitworth (Wash.) was third at 599 (+23).
 
"The team played well this weekend. We struggled to take advantage of some scoring opportunities, said Carleton head coach Sloan Wallgren. "We will look to regroup and finish the last couple events of the fall on a high note."
 
Up Next for the Knights
Carleton will be back in action next weekend at the Twin Cities Classic hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College.  The three-day tournament is set to begin on Saturday, Sept. 28 and will conclude on Monday, Sept. 30.
