ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Carleton College men's track & field team won two races on the first day of the MIAC Outdoor Championships, helping the Knights rank third out of 11 teams. Carleton already has turned in six All-MIAC performances (top three in each event) in addition to one All-MIAC Honorable Mention finish.
Gabe Nichols won the 1500-meter run with a time of 3:52.15.
Roy Llewellyn sat fifth with less than 200 meters remaining but blazed past a trio of competitors down home stretch to take second at a personal-best 3:52.83.
Chris Melville added a PR in the event, taking 15th at 4:07.52, and
Emerson Lange clocked in at 4:11.40 to take 20th.
The Knights also won the 4x800-meter relay as Llewellyn,
Alistair Pattison, Nichols, and Lyness combined on a time of 7:47.29.
Ian Moretensen earned All-MIAC status by taking second in the javelin throw, measuring 55.90 meters.
Soren Kaster cleared a personal-best 4.60 meters in the pole vault, placing second overall to earn All-MIAC recognition.
Indy Lyness (1:56.90),
Ethan Ash (1:56.15), and
Josh Meier (1:56.39) each qualified for the finals of the 800-meter run. They placed third, fifth, and eighth, respectively during the prelims.
Ian Scott finished 14th in the event with a time of 2:00.09.
Asher Nathan finished 12th in the prelims for the 400-meter dash 51.55 and was 17th after clocking in at 22.75 during the preliminary round of the 200-meter dash.
Sophomores
Ryan Bernstein and
Andrew Jamison placed 14th and 17th, respectively in the 10,000-meter run, covering the distance in 34:07.92 and 34:50.81.
The Knights point total got an early boost as Mortensen won the MIAC decathlon last week, with Kaster placing fifth for All-MIAC Honorable Mention.
The MIAC Outdoor Championships wrap up on Saturday. Field events start at 12:00 p.m. with racing on the track resuming at 1:30 p.m.
