ST. PAUL, Minn. – Phoebe Ward won the 5000-meter run as the Carleton College women's track & field team turned in a dozen top-15 results at the Joe Sweeney Invitational hosted by the University of St. Thomas. The 17-team meet was unscored.
 
Ward clocked a time of 17:03.12, more than nine seconds better than her previous personal best for the event. She was 1 of 4 Knights to post a top-10 result in the event. Hannah Preisser placed third overall at 17:20.65, Aliya Larsen took sixth with a new personal best of 17:39.07, and Katie Hirsche finished ninth at 18:00.78 to smash her previous PR.
 
Libby Rowland was the top NCAA Division III finisher and placed second overall in the 3000-meter steeplechase. She set a new PR at 11:21.32.
 
Helen Cross and Mary Blanchard took third and fourth, respectively, in the 1600-meter run. They both set new PRs by finishing in 4:31.71 and 4:32.85
 
Lara Erickson finished sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:17.58. Alice Cutter took 12th in the same event, finishing in 2:19.17, which was good for a two-second PR.
 
Riley Roberts established a new personal-best in the 100-meter dash, covering the distance in 12.79 seconds to earn 12th place, fifth among D-III racers.
 
Both of Carleton's relays turned in top-5 finishes. The 4x100 relay, comprised of Hadley Twichell, Roberts, Bianca Lott, and Michelle Musa completed a lap around the track at O'Shaughnessy Stadium in 50.29, third fastest in the event. Blanchard, Erickson, Twichell, and Roberts took fourth in the 4x400 relay at 4:01.33.
 
Up Next for the Knights
Emma Trojan will compete in the MIAC Heptathlon to be held at Carleton on May 2-3. Thursday's action includes the 100-meter hurdles, the high jump, the shot put, and the 200-meter dash. The competition concludes on Friday with the long jump, javelin throw, and 800-meter run.
