Knights win seven events–three by Ian Mortensen–at Carleton Relays

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Ian Mortensen won three events to pace the Carleton College men's track & field team at its lone home meet of the regular season–the Carleton Relays. The Knights won seven events overall and turned in 19 individual top-five results.
 
Continuing to work his way back from injury, Mortensen bested the field in the javelin (55.45 meters), long jump (new PR of 6.43 meters), and 110-meter hurdles (new PR of 16.22). He competed in five total events, taking third in the pole vault (3.83 meters) and placing 12th in the 100-meter dash (12.12).
 
Soren Kaster won the pole vault competition, clearing 4.07 meters. He may have been the busiest competitor at the meet as he took part in six events, including new PRs in the 110-meter hurdles (third place at 16.41), shot put (seventh place at 10.74 meters), and discus (eighth place at 29.08 meters). He also took sixth in the javelin (41.50 meters) and eighth in the long jump (5.15 meters).
 
Gabe Nichols, Roy Llewellyn, and Indy Lyness swept gold, silver and bronze in the 1500-meter run after clocking in at 3:53.17, 3:56.52, and new personal-best 3:58.94, respectively. Chris Melville took fifth at while establishing a new PR of 4:12.25.
 
Ethan Ash won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.97. Josh Meier took fourth at 1:55.97 while Nichols was fifth at with a new personal-best time of 1:56.18.
 
Brett Hanley placed third in the 3000-meter steeplechase as he crossed the line at 10:09.59.
 
Liam Kennedy and Samuel Reiter finished 3-4 in the 400-meter dash, crossing the line at 53.19 and a new personal-best 53.44, respectively.
 
Other top-five results for Carleton:
• Asher Nathan took third place in the 200-meter dash, clocking a new personal-best time of 23.04.
Noah Morris finished fourth with a personal-best distance of 21.92 in the hammer throw.
• Tim Adams joined Kaster and Mortensen in notching top-five results in the pole vault. Adams placed fifth at 3.53 meters.
 
Carleton closed the meet with its seventh victory of the day, besting the field in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:24.10.
 
Up Next for the Knights
Carleton will send a small group of student-athletes to compete at the University of Minnesota's Gary Wilson Invitational on Wednesday, April 24.
