VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Senior Helen Cross became the latest member of the Carleton College women's track & field program to collect All-America recognition. She was a second-team honoree after finishing 11th in the 3000-meter run on Day 2 of the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships.
 
This is Cross' first career All-America accolade. Carleton women's indoor track & field has now totaled 27 All-America awards in program history (see chart below). This marks the fourth time a Knight has been honored for the 3,000-meter distance.
 
Cross was seeded 17th in the 20-runner field but turned in a personal-best time of 9:48.40. She was 16th two laps into the race but slowly moved up as she picked her way through the crowded main pack.
 
"What a beautifully structured race," said Carleton head coach Donna Ricks. "Helen got off the line well, inserted herself into the competition, and executed her race perfectly from start to finish. Coming into the competition we believed this was going to be one of the fastest events contested on the track.
 
"Helen is a fierce competitor, and she accepted the challenge today and as a result achieved a personal best."
 
Cross previously competed at the 2023 Indoor Championships, placing 12th in the 5,000-meter race.
 
She was the fourth Knights to compete at the national indoor meet, joining Mary Blanchard (800m), Phoebe Ward (5000m), and Sophie McManus (5000m), who all raced on Friday.
 
Up Next for the Knights
Carleton may have a few individuals elect to compete in various meets during spring break, but the next full-team competition will be on April 6 as the Knights open the outdoor season at the Hamline Invitational.
