Soren Kaster finished fifth, Reese Anderson eighth at Jim Klein Decathlon

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Carleton College first-year Soren Kaster finished fifth in the Jim Klein Decathlon hosted by Westmont College. Teammate Reese Anderson finished eighth overall. This was the first competition for the Knights during the outdoor track & field season.
 
He totaled 5,612 points over the two-day competition, featuring 15 total entrants.
 
Kaster collected 679 points after covering the 100-meter dash in 11.86 seconds, and measured 5.57 meters in the long jump, good for 496 points. He added 481 points with a distance of 9.93 meters in the shot put, and cleared 1.66 meters in the high jump to earn 512 points
 
The first day concluded with Kaster in sixth place after he secured 700 points by completing the 400-meter dash in 52.56 seconds.
 
On Friday, he clocked 16.81 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles (644 points), measured 24.75 meters in the discus (362 points), and cleared 4.00 meters in the pole vault (617 meters). Kaster added 458 points after measuring 41.10 meters in the javelin and concluded the decathlon by winning the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:42.82, good for 663 points.
 
Anderson totaled 3891 points. He clocked 12.19 in the 100-meter dash before measuring 5.44 meters in the long jump, 8.58 meters in the shot put, and 1.51 meters in the high jump. He clocked 1:15.15 in the 400-meter race.
 
Anderson did not finish the 110-meter hurdles, then measured 26.83 meters in the discus, 3.50 meters in the pole vault, and 44.50 meters in the javelin. He wrapped up the meet with a time of 4:58.47 in the 1500-meter run.
